How do the Moderna and Pfizer mRNA-based vaccines work?

Only fair I make a post about our two leading mRNA-based COVID vaccines despite joining a little late to the game. Although, these two companies did just publish their Phase III data in the NEJM just this week so I’m going to say I’m right on time 👍🏼

In the coming weeks/months more of the general public (specifically those outside healthcare) will be given the opportunity to get one of these two vaccines. So now it’s more important than ever to understand the science and the clinical data.

Here I’ve summarized the general mechanism of providing immunity, a summary of key similarities/differences between the two (since they appear the same until a deeper dive is done), and the key efficacy/safety data found from the Phase III clinical trials that was used to grant them EUA.

Scroll through, ask questions, share with anyone you know! More knowledge is always better.
