Hi! My name is Anni and I’m the face behind the content here.
I have always had a love for science, dating back to my teenage years. Fun fact: I met my husband at an International Science Fair in middle school! Not only do I love science, I’ve always loved communicating it. Drawing it. Organizing it. Making it accessible to everyone and easier to remember. If you were to dig up the boxes in my parent’s basement containing my old school work you’d find illustrated study guides on just about everything I was learning (even for books I read in English class)! My brain works in infographics and now I put them here on the internet. I also believe that my years of being on debate team helped me learn how to organize thoughts, recognize bias, and present clear arguments. I hope you find this mesh of interests of value to you on your journey to better understanding science!
Now what is my education? I studied Biomedical Engineering at the University of Utah (Salt Lake City) and went on to get a PhD in Bioengineering at Rice University (Houston). While the scope of my education was more biomechanical in my undergraduate, my work in graduate school was heavily focused on gene therapy, virology, and protein engineering. And now I can’t get enough! Since obtaining my PhD I have been working at a larger Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical company in Cambridge, MA as an Analytical Development Scientist. My work focuses on their viral vector based gene therapy products – building off of my experience at Rice.
Part way through 2020 I began creating some story content explaining COVID-19 related topics to friends and family on my personal account. I loved doing it and received some great feedback. So at the very tail-end of 2020 I up and started sciencewithanni on Instagram – a public account dedicated to bringing you science by illustration. I want to make you love it, know it, share it, and remember it!
Thank you for all your continued support as the community here grows.
