Choose Sources that Empower

Take note: Does the information you’re taking in leave you feeling empowered or does it leave you feeling reactive?

A few weeks ago I got asked in my stories what I do to try and vet sources of information on social media.

▪️The most obvious is that they are able to provide sources or explanations for their claims.

▪️The second is that their messaging follows logic and that they are able to explain things when clarity is needed.

➡️ Finally, I look for how they present their information. While there are exceptions, I find content that is overly dramatic or exaggerated is meant to play to your emotions rather than try and better prepare you. We feel enough worry, fear, anger, and sadness without the content we consume adding to that. So in a nutshell, be a bit wary of overly dramatic material.

Importantly, this does not mean that we should avoid information that is alarming in nature. For example, information about the pandemic or global warming are inherently concerning. It is very important to stay on top of information related to these topics but it is certainly possible to take it in from sources that leave you feeling empowered to act.

I want you to know that I take your emotions very seriously and hope to be a calming and empowering source 🤍
