You can be here! A series that captures the duality of our thinking.

The third post in this series is all about the seemingly never-ending conflict between “modern” medicine and “alternative” medicine. Truth is, we need to leverage both as it pertains to our personal health journey.

You absolutely need to take care of your body from sun-up to sun-down. Carefully and intentionally choose what you eat based on your needs and work to build strength, however that may look for you. Practice meditation and build a took kit for dealing with all the world throws at you. You are your own caretaker and should feel empowered to make daily decisions that lead to wellness.

I also believe that all of us will likely find ourselves in a position where our health is in a place that could benefit from the fruits of advanced medicine and science. Medicine and therapy that can be found at a hospital are often more specialized. Often more potent. They can even be personalized to your genetics. They take principles of nature and build or engineer them to fit a specific health need in an evidence-based way. Modern medicine augments the health and wellness you build in your home. They are not competing.

Now some of you may have found yourself frustrated by your experience with modern medicine. I believe it! It is, by nature, more complex and therefore you can find yourself feeling that you’ve lost control of your health plan. This shouldn’t happen and I hope that you can continue to advocate for yourself, ask questions, and make personal choices. But I’d say it’s important to not avoid modern medicine because of this.

So what do I hope you take away? You can be here! In the middle. Where you believe in the importance of both modern and alternative medicine and that leaving one out (when it’s needed) is actually detrimental.
