Breakthrough Cases

A new study was published that looked deeper into real-world effectiveness of the two mRNA-based vaccines. What I find most interesting about this publication is the information about the severity and duration of disease in the observed breakthrough cases (infections in vaccinated individuals)! A basic understanding of immunity would lead you to hypothesize that if you do get infected after being vaccinated you would be more likely to have mild symtpoms (given your body’s ability to fight back quickly). Until now we hadn’t seen the data tabulated like this, confirming that, in fact, breakthrough cases are, on average, more mild! Less time with symptoms, fewer days sick in bed, and lower viral load. Exciting to see it presented!
