From a global perspective Omicron has been objectively very deadly.
🗣The message of Omicron being “less deadly” is speaking entirely on an individual level (and entirely relative). While it’s very fortunate that we aren’t dealing with a virus with a higher mortality rate, it is also important to acknowledge that the absolute burden of the pandemic has not reduced during the most recent waves.
🌎 From a global perspective: A “less deadly” virus (less virulent), that spreads really quickly (more contagious or evades immunity), can result in an overwhelming amount of pain and suffering.
🤝 I would strongly encourage you to expand the circle of people you are considering when you make decisions about your social interactions.
▪️If you normally just think about C-19 as it relates to your personal risk, expand your consideration circle to include your close friends and family.
▪️If you already consider your friends and family in your risk mitigation decisions, expand your circle to include your neighbors that you might run into at the grocery store or your coworkers at your job.
▪️Keep expanding your consideration circle!
💭 So that’s it. This sums up my basic pandemic thoughts over the past few weeks. I very much believe we have made so many decisions as a world community that have saved an incredible amount of lives and, given that we aren’t yet out of the woods, I believe that we will continue to make decisions that save lives. Keep being a part of that!
