No one single person invented mRNA vaccines. It takes a village! š”š”š”
Many thanks to @sciencewhizliz for leading the gigantic task of querying the many publications related to mRNA technology and counting authors. @niniandthebrain then came in clutch with her fantastic data presentation skills to visually illustrate just how spread out author contribution is.
This post was initially inspired by recent claims that Robert Malone is the āinventor of mRNA vaccinesā. As you can see from the pie chart on slide 1 and the timeline of discovery on slide 2, he played a role but absolutely cannot claim inventorship. Not only is that not true, but it is incredibly disrespectful to the hundreds (484 to be exact) authors that contributed to this work.
In particular we have highlighted 4 of the top authors when it comes to publication count and material contribution. Drew Weismann, Katalin Kariko, Ugur Sahin, and Ozlem Tureci all contributed significantly to the work on mRNA technology and are key to the success of our mRNA-based vaccines today.
The scientific community really is that – a community. We are constantly building off of each otherās work for the advancement of key technologies to benefit humanity.
